No Artist Left Behind.
"Ram in the Mountains" by Sandy Milne
In 2002 the Alberta government’s Persons With Developmental Disabilities department changed its mandate, leaving persons with brain injuries ineligible for its programs. That led Gene Neel, Barb Smith, Sharon Falconer and JoAnn Miller to found Artistic Expressions as a means of funding arts programs for adults with a physical disability and/or brain injury living in Calgary and Area.
Over the past 14 years Artistic Expressions has grown from sponsoring 12 artists per semester at one site to sponsoring 35 artists at two sites. Our initial site is located in the Craft Cabin room at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, while our second site is at the Indefinite Arts Centre.
Our mandate is to provide a creative, respectful, open-concept environment where artists are supported by qualified instructors to explore a variety of media in individually chosen projects. Possible mediums for exploration include fibre arts, painting and drawing, hand building and pottery, glass, print making, ceramics, collage, mixed media sculpture, and jewellery.

Life is sometimes hard. Things go wrong, in life and in love and in business and in friendship and in health and in all other ways that life can go wrong. And when things get tough, this is what you should do. Make good art.
I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn't say any other way – things I had no words for.
